Following in the footsteps of Peter H. Furth, his son Theodore H. Furth became an insurance agent in New Ulm in the 1930's. Ted's son Herbert J. Furth would work in the agency until he eventually moved to St. Paul to raise his family and continue his insurance career.  In 1965, Ted’s son (and Herb's Brother), James R. Furth took over the family business in New Ulm.

In 1970, Jim merged the Furth Insurance Agency with the Meile Insurance Agency (which was founded in 1893 by Adolph Meile and Nick Henningson and located at 9 1/2 N. Minnesota). The merger created the Furth-Meile Insurance Agency, and was moved downstairs to 9 N. Minnesota, where it would enjoy a wonderful downtown presence for the next 50 yrs.  Jim’s son, Paul T. Furth, joined the business in 1979 and is still active in the agency today.

 

Peter's great great Grandson, Thomas R. Furth, graduated from St. John’s University in 1991 (where he studied business management and played football for the legendary coach, John Gagliardi). His first job out of college was with The St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company (ironically, a key insurance company utilized by all of his Grandfathers before him) holding positions in both Underwriting and Claim Adjusting. Tom joined Furth-Meile Insurance in 2000 and his Brother, Michael D. Furth joined the agency in 2020. Furth-Meile eventually outgrew the downtown location and moved to our present location at 26 So. Broadway, New Ulm.
